Throughout California (and elsewhere in the USA), federal, state, and local regulatory bodies such as the EPA and OSHA require that owners/operators mitigate the risks of asbestos when renovating or during demolition. This means that buildings and other structures must be surveyed for materials that may contain asbestos, and failure to comply with these requirements may incur fines or other severe penalties. There is also a significant risk to human health from mismanaged asbestos.
